Search Console's AI Impressions Report Is Live For Almost Everyone

Google's generative AI report is now in nearly every Search Console. It counts impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, but shows no clicks and no queries.

Google’s generative AI performance report has quietly finished rolling out, and it is now showing in almost every Search Console property. It counts how often your pages appeared inside AI Overviews and AI Mode, broken down by page, country, device and date. It does not show clicks and it does not show search queries. You will find it as an expandable section under the main Performance report. Nothing about it changes your rankings, and there is nothing to switch on.

What actually happened

Google announced the reports on June 3, 2026, with separate views for Search and for Discover, and was explicit that this was a staged launch: “We are rolling these reports out to a subset of websites, allowing us to thoroughly test them and receive feedback before making them widely available.”

The subset grew quickly. Search Engine Land reported on June 23 that access was expanding to more sites across the United States, India, Switzerland and elsewhere.

On August 11, Search Engine Roundtable checked around 25 properties and found the report present on every one of them. Google has still not announced the full rollout, and the help documentation still describes a subset. So treat “everyone” as an observation, not a Google statement. The documentation also gives the reason a property might still show nothing: the site has not received enough impressions in generative AI features.

Five things the report gives you: impressions, the pages that appeared, countries, devices, and dates down to hourly granularity. Two things it does not: clicks and queries. Google says it is “continuing to work with website owners” on “adding additional metrics over time”, which is a plan, not a date.

What this means for Georgian Bay businesses

First, the boundary. This report is about your website. It is not about your Google Business Profile. If a customer in Collingwood sees your listing in the map pack, that visibility is still counted in your Business Profile performance, not here. The two channels stay separate, which is worth remembering before you read too much into a small number. Our breakdown of how the map pack and organic results feed different kinds of jobs still applies unchanged.

Second, the useful read is the Pages tab, not the total. For a Wasaga Beach roofer or a Thornbury HVAC company, the pages that show up in AI answers are usually the ones that answer a specific question in plain words: what a job costs, how long it takes, what happens when the furnace quits at 2am. The homepage rarely appears. That pattern is the same one behind the six inputs that get a business recommended by ChatGPT, and this report is the first time Google has shown you its own version of it.

Third, be honest about the limit. Impressions with no clicks cannot tell you whether AI answers are taking work away from you or sending it to you. We have not measured that for any Georgian Bay business, and neither has anyone else who is only looking at this report. Anyone who tells you they have quantified AI traffic loss from this data is guessing.

What to do about it

  1. Open Search Console, go to Performance, and expand the generative AI section. Set the date range to three months.
  2. Write down the impression total. That is your baseline. For most local service sites it will be a small number next to total Search impressions, and that is normal in August 2026.
  3. Open the Pages view and note which URLs appear. Those are the pages Google finds quotable. Give the rest of your service pages the same shape: the answer in the first paragraph, real prices where you have them, and an FAQ block at the end.
  4. Do not change strategy on it yet. One month of impressions with no click data is not a decision. Check again next month.

If the section is missing entirely, the documented reason is too few AI impressions, not a penalty. Keep going.

Frequently asked questions

Does this report cover my Google Business Profile or the map pack?

No. It reports impressions for pages on your website inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. Map pack and profile visibility are reported separately inside your Business Profile.

Why are there no clicks or queries in it?

Google has not explained the omission. It has said only that it is working on adding more metrics over time. Until clicks arrive, this report tells you that you were shown, not what happened next.

The report is not in my Search Console. Did I do something wrong?

Probably not. Google’s documentation says the report is hidden when a site has not received enough impressions in generative AI features. A small site in Meaford or Owen Sound can be perfectly healthy and still see nothing here yet.

Does appearing in AI Overviews actually bring in calls?

We do not know, and this report cannot answer it. There is no click data and no query data. What we can say is that the businesses appearing in AI answers in our own Canada AI Visibility Index were not the biggest names in their markets, so the surface is still cheap to compete for.
